The most productive faculty
The Faculty of Science of MU is one of the 4 founding faculties of the University and is a part of the legacy of Gregor Johann Mendel (1822-1884), the world-famous geneticist. We are primarily a research-oriented faculty, offering undergraduate education closely linked to primary and applied research. Our scientists have achieved considerable success in both national and international grant programmes. We contribute about 39% of all Masaryk University scientific outputs to Web of Science (for the period 2017-2021).
Top-class facilities
Teaching takes place in a new, state-of-the-art teaching and research campus in first-class laboratories, classrooms and libraries, as well as in historic buildings in the city centre. In addition, all university buildings in the historic centre of Brno have undergone extensive renovation and modernisation to meet world-class standards.
The university campus, the size of 10 football fields, is the largest higher education construction project in Central Europe. It is shared with the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Sports Studies and the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC).
And did you know that in addition to the high-tech laboratories where students become scientists, we also have our own botanical garden and run the first Czech Antarctic station, where scientists have been researching the local ecosystem for a long time?
People - our greatest wealth
The Faculty of Science of MU cares for about 1350 employees from 13 institutes, 3 other departments and the Dean's Office of the Faculty. It strives to create friendly working conditions and transparent procedures for the recruitment of researchers. A number of informal events are held throughout the year for both staff and students, such as the Garden Party, Barbecue with the Deans, Advent gathering, MUNI Day. The faculty takes care of foreign staff, of which there are about 12% at the faculty and who come from 45 countries (except Slovakia), through the university's Welcome Office. In 2019 we became the first faculty of Masaryk University with the HR Award certificate.
