Cellulosic materials have wide variety of applications. Frequently is necessary to modify the surface of this materials in order to improve theirs hydrophobicity or hydrofilicity. From the application point of view there is promising the application ofat mospheric pressure discharges. The aim of the present project is plasma treatment of the cellulosic materials and the deposition of protective thin films in surface or coplanar barrier discharge at atmospheric pressure. The chemical changes induced bypla sma treatment will be investigated by means of infrared spectroscopy and/or, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and by means of the contact angle measurement. The discharge properties will be studied by means of the emission spectroscopy and theelectrical properties of the plasma will be studied by means of the current and voltage measurements. The ageing effect of modified materials will be also studied. The mechanical properties of deposited polymer thin films will be determined by means of
