- antioxidants, glutathion, ascorbate, tocopherol, zeaxanthin, lichens, high-light stress
The proposed project will contribute to the understanding of the relation of glutathione, ascorbate, tocopherol and zeaxanthin formation, changes in their pool and their dynamics in lichens in response to various irradiance (low, medium, high) lasting various time (from tens of minutes to several days). Moreover, the project will be focused on the evaluation of the likely effect of photoprotective compounds located in lichen cortex on the formation of selected antioxidants. Antioxidants will be determined by high performance liquid chromatography. Simultaneously with sampling for biochemical determination, functionality of photosystem II in chloroplasts will be measured by means of chlorophyll fluorescence technique. The gain of the proposed project will be also the comparison of the interspecific variability in antioxidative protection in lichens.
