Development of protein-resistant and protein-adhesive layers based on synthetic and/or natural polymers is the main aim of the project. Protein-resistant layers are essential for construction of biosensors designated to work in highly concentrated protein solutions (e.g. blood) or for development of sterile materials. On the other hand, the protein-adhesive materials would be very useful in studies of materials for implants and in construction of special biosensors. Furthermore, the innovative methods for testing of quality and quantity of such materials will be developed and evaluated. First, development of methods based on biosensing technology will be investigated (characterization of layers including sensitive measurement of protein adhesion in real time). The atomic force microscopy method investigates the real structure and protein adhesion at the nano-scale level. Finally, the optimized interfaces will be employed in construction of affinity and enzyme-based biosensors.
