Department of Geography, Department of Geology
Research in the Earth Sciences department covers both geography and geology. Within the Department of Geography, we have a long tradition in physical and human geography, along with classical geography, geo-informatics, climatology and polar research. The Department of Geology covers both fundamental and applied fields of mineralogy, petrology and economic geology; sedimentology, physical and structural geology, geo-mechanics and engineering, hydrogeology, geochemistry and palaeontology. The Institute of Earth Physics includes a monitoring centre for earthquakes, and undertakes research into seismology and active tectonics.
